Accreditation, Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS)
Erie Day School is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS), (www.paispa.org), every 10 years with 5 year interim evaluations. PAIS develops, monitors, and provides a program of evaluation and accreditation using uniform standards to evaluate each member school based on the school’s individual philosophy. Accreditation ensures that schools meet and maintain articulated standards of educational excellence. Erie Day School was most recently reaccredited in the spring of 2007 and completed the 5-year interim reaccreditation process in winter 2012.
Member, National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS)
Erie Day School is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), (www.nais.org). NAIS member schools are fully accredited, non-profit, racially non-discriminatory, and governed by a Board of Trustees. NAIS member schools share an overall dedication to quality education, high expectation, and a commitment to providing access and opportunities to a diverse group of students. Each member school of the National Association of Independent Schools meets the high standards of the education community to which it belongs and is dedicated to bringing out the very best in each child. Erie Day School uses NAIS established principles of good practice for its schools, defining high standards and ethical behavior in key areas of school operation including admission, partnership with parents, and governance.
Board of Trustees
The Erie Day School Board of Trustees manages the business and affairs of the school in consultation with the Head of School. This includes the adoption of the annual budget, assuring the School’s financial health, striving to continually improve all programs and services offered by the school, and maintaining in the best possible condition of all real estate and physical equipment.
The Board of Trustees consists of not less than 15 nor more than 22 trustees, plus such ex-officio trustees, trustees emeriti, and honorary trustees as provided in the Erie Day School By-laws. Not fewer than one-half of the trustees are current parents. Trustees other than honorary, ex-officio, and emeriti trustees are elected for a term of three years.
