Most independent schools like Erie Day School are small communities and so are their class sizes. Teachers get to know every student, not just in the classroom, but also during enrichment activities, in drama productions and on the athletic field. An important outgrowth of the close teacher/student relationship is trust. Students feel free to discuss ideas and problems with their teachers whom they look upon as trusted advisors. Erie Day School becomes an extension of the student’s family, providing a safe environment to explore ideas and feelings with the guidance that ensures the student won’t get lost in the exploration.
