Dress Code
Erie Day School Dress Code Standards for the 2011-2012 School Year
General appearance for all boys and girls, Grade 1 to 8
All articles of clothing be clean, pressed, and in good condition (i.e., buttons replaced, repairs made, hems sewn, etc.)
Shirt
Plain white or evergreen long or short sleeved shirt with collar or 'polo style' shirt with collar, or plain white or evergreen turtleneck.

Shirts must be of acceptable width and length in order to remain tucked in with all but the top button buttoned.

Shirts are not to be layered.

Cuffs on long-sleeved shirts must be buttoned or rolled.

No manufacturer logos.

Sweaters and Sweatshirts
V-neck, crew neck, or cardigan in evergreen or plain white, or Erie Day School sweatshirt (ash) which can be purchased through the Parent Group.

No hoodies or fleece.

Pants and Slacks
Khaki or dark navy blue.

No Levi or similar brand of rivet construction is acceptable.

No leggings, stretch pants, cargo pants, bell-bottoms, wide-leg pants, or low-riders.

All pants must be worn at waist.
Shorts
Khaki dress shorts or dark navy blue Bermuda or walking shorts.

No cargo shorts.
-
Length must be no higher than 2” from top of the knee.

Shorts may be worn April 15th through September 30th.
Belt
Where there are belt loops, a solid colored belt must be worn.

Belt colors may only be navy, brown, or black.

Belt loops may not be cut from pants or slacks.
Socks
Plain dark navy blue, khaki, brown, or white socks.

Socks must cover the ankle – no peds or sport socks.

Quarter socks are acceptable.
Shoes
Navy, black, or brown comfortable dress shoes.

Any shoes with ties must be tied.
-
Heels must not exceed 1½”.

No deep treaded soles.

Sneakers, hiking boots, Birkenstocks, ballet slippers, clogs or shoes with open toes or high heels are not permitted to be worn during the regular school day.
Jewelry
Jewelry may be worn but is limited to watches, rings, and simple earrings (no chandelier earrings). A single necklace is acceptable if it is a short chain and worn inside the shirt or blouse.
Hair
Hair must be clean, well groomed, combed, and of natural color (no unnatural colors such as blue, green, red, purple, etc.) Erie Day School, however, reserves the right to require that a student have his or her hair cut if it is deemed to be a distraction to the student or members of his or her class.
Additional items for girls - Grades 1 to 8
Jumper (Grades 1 to 4) – Khaki, Erie Day School plaid, or dark navy blue
Skirt (Grades 1 to 8) – Khaki, Erie Day School plaid, or dark navy blue
Skorts (All Grades) – Khaki or dark navy blue skorts

Length of jumpers, skirts, and skorts must be no higher than 2” from top of the knee.

Tight skirts are unacceptable.

We encourage girls wearing jumpers or skirts to also wear tights – white or navy blue only.

All skirts and skorts must be worn at waist.
Socks and Tights
Plain knee socks, or tights in dark navy blue, khaki, brown, or white only.
Physical Education Dress Code Requirements
Sneakers
Sneakers (which are kept at school) are required for all students for Physical Education.
Boys and girls in grades 4 to 8 wear evergreen athletic shorts (purchased through Lands End) or navy blue athletic shorts and white Erie Day School t-shirts (with green crest and school motto) that are purchased from Parent Group. White socks are required.
Boys and girls in Preschool, Kindergarten and Grades 1 to 3 are not required to change into gym clothes, but are required to wear sneakers to Physical Education class.
Preschool and Kindergarten Dress Code Requirements
Boys and girls are not required to follow the dress standards that have been established for Grades1 to 8. Preschool and Kindergarten children should be outfitted in comfortable but durable clothing.
Sneakers are permitted.
